The Department of Commerce and Productive Activities of Venice to stay in line with the promotion policies of the Veneto Region and to aim at the protection, conservation and revitalization of certain sectors in the Venetian area, recently communicated to the European Commission its will to collaborate in the creation of a mechanism that leads to the recognition of a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) mark for Murano glass and Burano lace.
These two products are part of the precious cultural and artisan heritage of Venice, for this very reason, the recognition of the IGP mark would guarantee their survival, in addition to the great opportunity to deal with counterfeiting practices.
