If you are in Venice on 6 January you certainly cannot miss the Regata delle Befane!
The regatta, organized by the Reale Società Canottieri Bucintoro, is a sporting event born in 1979 and foresees that the rowers compete on the competition field dressed as the Befana.
The rather particular and unique event is loved by children and adults who gather along the banks of the Grand Canal to support the many participating rowers.
The Regatta of the Befane starts at 11:00, from Palazzo Dolfin – Manin (near Rialto) the rowers travel along the Grand Canal heading towards San Marco up to the Paleto in front of the Rio di San Polo, to then return to the finish line under the Ponte di Rialto.
Upon arrival, the witches are welcomed by the crowd who celebrate their arrival between hot chocolate and mulled wine, taking the opportunity to greet the new year and celebrate the end of the holidays.
