The Venice Art Biennale is one of the most important international contemporary art events in the world. The first edition dates back to 1895, which was baptized as: “1st International Art Exhibition of the city of Venice”.
The event is organized every two years by the Venice Biennale, a non-profit organization that organizes other important events in the fields of cinema, theater, music, dance but above all architecture, thanks to the prestigious Architecture Biennale. which takes place in alternate years with respect to the Art Biennale.
The 59th International Art Exhibition was inaugurated on 23 April 2022, curated by Cecilia Alemani, the first Italian woman to hold this position.
The area of the Biennale hosts 29 pavilions from different nations, present in various areas of the historic center of Venice: the exhibition area, in fact, is not limited only to the Gardens, but is spread over a large part of the city.
This year the exhibition includes 213 artists from 58 countries. There are 26 Italian artists, 180 the first participations in the International Exhibition, 1433 the works and objects on display, 80 new productions.
The 59th International Art Exhibition entitled The milk of dreams will be open to the public until Sunday 27 November.
The theme of the exhibition, The milk of dreams, is borrowed from the book by the surrealist author Leonora Carrington (1917-2011). In this work, the surrealist artist describes a magical world, in which life is constantly reinvented through the imagination and in which it is allowed to change, transform, become other than oneself. The exhibition The milk of dreams is an imaginary journey through the metamorphosis of human bodies and definitions.
The theme of changing the concept of the human is the guide to this edition of the Biennale Arte, whose research focuses in particular on three thematic areas: the representation of bodies and their metamorphoses; the relationship between individuals and technologies; the bonds that intertwine between bodies and the Earth.
